Achilles' Shield
After Achilles had died in battle against the Trojans, the question of who would get his mythical armor still remained. His armor had been crafted by Hephaestus, the god of forges, fire, and blacksmiths and was magnificent armor. Both Odysseus and Ajax wanted the great honor of receiving the great warrior Achilles’ armor. A contest was devised. They would both write and deliver speeches to the huge Greek army, and the people in the Greek army would decide the winner. After the contest was over, Odysseus was declared the winner. After Ajax lost, he went mad and committed suicide. Odysseus proudly wore Achilles’ armor for the rest of his life.
